The East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Reform Coalition understands that lasting change begins with informed and engaged citizens. Our commitment to transparency means that we regularly report on conditions inside the parish facility, share updates from public meetings, and keep the community informed about incidents and oversight efforts. By pairing education with advocacy, we equip residents with the knowledge they need to speak out effectively, attend metro council sessions, and push for the creation of a citizens review board that can ensure humane treatment and constitutional liberties for all who are housed there.

Volunteering your time is one of the most direct ways to support our work. Whether you help with outreach at community events, assist with organizing public forums, or contribute to our regular reporting and communications efforts, every hour given strengthens the coalition. We believe that community engagement is not a passive act but an active commitment to reimagining public safety in our parish. When neighbors show up together, we build the collective power necessary to challenge mass incarceration and demand that facilities are controlled and managed with dignity and fairness.

Your financial contribution directly fuels our advocacy, educational outreach, and organizing campaigns. Donations allow us to maintain a visible presence at public meetings, produce educational materials, and support families who are navigating the challenges of having a loved one held at the parish facility. We are committed to using every dollar responsibly in service of our core mission: reducing mass incarceration and restoring the rights of those who have been impacted by the justice system. A recurring gift, no matter the size, creates stability and helps us plan for sustained, long-term change.

Membership in the coalition is about more than adding your name to a list; it is a commitment to standing alongside advocates, formerly incarcerated individuals, and family members in pursuit of justice. Members receive regular updates on our initiatives, invitations to meetings and events, and opportunities to shape our priorities. We believe that those most affected by the criminal justice system must have a central voice in the solutions we pursue. By joining together, we push back against critics who would maintain the status quo and work toward a future where reentry barriers are removed and every person is treated humanely.
